Key Vocabulary

Using correct mathematical language is crucial for thinking, learning and communicating mathematically.

We encourage children to explain what they are doing and why they are doing it. In lessons, we provide structures (e.g. stem sentences) for children to extend and develop their reasoning skills as they explain and justify their thinking. Opportunities are provided for children to review their existing knowledge, explore new ideas and make links to other areas of the curriculum and real-life to deepen their understanding.
