Music

Music is taught to all pupils in Fulbourn Primary School by our specialist music teacher, Mr Daniel Brinsdon ARCM, who works in a range of schools for Cambridgeshire Music. He teaches and runs clubs at Fulbourn on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. At Fulbourn Primary, the subject is led by Peter Edwards.

Music is taught for an hour in a weekly lesson, two half terms out of three. Every third half term, children go swimming. This means that the children are taught four units of music each year.

To be human is to make music.  Music is a social and spiritual phenomenon that unites us, transcending languages, borders and culture.  Through music lessons, children learn to make music with confidence, building versatility as well as their skill as listeners and performers.  Singing is paramount.  Music lessons promote joy and a shared sense of purpose, and we give the children opportunities to be creative in their composition and performance.  We expose children to music in various styles and genres, encompassing and going beyond the canon of Western classical music.  We encourage them to listen attentively and think deeply about what they hear and we teach them the vocabulary they need to express themselves effectively.
