27th May 2022

Happy Platinum Jubilee day!

We wish you all a very happy half term break. We look forward to welcoming the children back on Tuesday 7th June.

Important Reminder – No Nuts or Citrus Fruits

Please remember that we are a nut and citrus free school, as we have pupils and members of staff who have severe allergies to both.  Please do not send any citrus fruits or nuts in lunch boxes or snacks for children.  Thank you for helping to keep us all safe.

Men In Schools – School Camp 9th/10th July - No tent required!

Those of you that have been before will know what great fun this annual event is.  Run by the Men In Schools group the camp is for all the family and takes place on the edge of Fulbourn Fen nature reserve.  We organise competitions, games and workshops.  There is food from the BBQ, a campfire, marshmallows, guitar playing and almost certainly water fights!  In short, it’s a whole lot of FUN for everyone (we have tents which those without can use for the weekend).  Sign up here:  https://forms.gle/EvpDhBbBwxL17Eom8 (the form has lots more information and some nice photos).

Fulbourn Village Library Visits

As mentioned last week, we have been working hard with the community library to arrange a visit for each class in the final half term.  We would love to have as many families join in with these visits as possible – it’s a great chance to meet your local librarians and hear all about the summer reading challenge!  Please take a look at the timetable below and if you are able to volunteer your time to visit, please get in touch with your class teacher or the office.  We are looking for as many volunteers as possible, so please let us know if you are willing and able to volunteer for more than one trip.  The more volunteers, the merrier!

The library team politely request that adults bring face coverings with them for the trip.

Teacher Recommends

Each week in the newsletter, a different teacher will recommend a favourite book.  How many will you have read?

Mrs McCaughran Recommends:  Witch for a Week, Kaye Umansky

A great easy read for middle school or adult-read bedtime story for lower school children.  Elsie Pickles agrees to house sit for local witch Magenta Sharp and gets more than she was expecting! I loved imagining what I might get up to if I were a witch for a week!

Community Noticeboard

Don’t forget to visit the Community Noticeboard page on our website for information about local clubs, organisations and events.  Just added is information including Cherry Hinton Lions FC Girls Football training, Fulbourn Village Library’s Book Sale on 4th June and Fencing Lessons at Bottisham Village College.

Some highlights from this week

Year 1 have been planting bean seeds and experimenting with differing growing conditions.  They sprouted in cotton balls with no soil.
