New to Fulbourn
We know it can be difficult to join a new community and we want you to feel as comfortable as possible so here are just a few of the questions you may need answers to...
...but there really is no such thing as a silly question - we want to make sure you have all the information you need so if you can't find the information you need here, please ask a member of staff at the gate, your child's class teacher or pop into the office and they will be very happy to help!
- What are Class Assemblies?
Class assemblies are special gatherings where family members are warmly invited to join. During these assemblies, children showcase their learning and achievements from the term through engaging performances and presentations.
- How do I contact my child's class teacher?
We ask that you only pass on urgent messages at the beginning of the school day because the teachers are focussed on keeping their class safe and starting learning.
You are welcome to catch your child's class teacher at the classroom door at the end of the school day for a quick conversation, once all of the children have been safely handed to their families. If you would like a longer discussion, the office will be very happy to book an appointment for you. You can contact the office at office@fulbourn.cambs.sch.uk or on 01223 712525.
- What is the Pastoral Team?
We are extremely lucky at Fulbourn Primary School, to have a three-person pastoral team. Nichola Grove is our Aspirations and Achievement Pastoral Lead and Kerry Middleditch is our Wellbeing Lead. Both Nichola and Kerry are members of the Senior Leadership Team and our Deputy Safeguarding Leads. Their role is to support any child in school who needs some extra help to thrive. You can contact them, at pastoralteam@fulbourn.cambs.sch.uk or via the school office on 01223 712525.
Ali Monk, is our Family Worker and Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) and she works directly with children and their families around emotional literacy, behaviour and routines.
- What is Tribe Week and Tribe Days?
Tribe Week is the first week of each academic year, where each tribe (class) work together to build a strong community, built on high quality relationships and agreed codes of conduct. During the week, children collaborate on problem solving tasks, collaborative games and the week finishes on a whole school challenge. Previously children have created a whole school fashion show from newspaper and a giant den competition on the school field.
Tribe Week is followed up throughout the year with Tribe Days after each holiday, to strengthen connections in the Tribe (class) and reset the expectations.
- What trips will my child go on each year?
We're excited to offer a variety of trips during your child's time at school, including walks around the village, explorations of the nearby nature reserve, and a topic related trip planned for each term. All information about these trips will be sent out through the Reach More Parents App.
- What volunteering opportunities are there at school?
There is a wide range of opportunities for family members to volunteer at our school. These include supporting with classroom activities, listening to children read, joining village walks or trips. We love inviting people to come and share their expertise through workshops or presentations on subjects they're passionate about or knowledgeable in.
- What are the school 'Houses'?
We have four house teams at Fulbourn Primary School: Darwin, Baret, Henson and Aston. Each is named after a famous explorer, to encourage us to 'Dare to discover'! Children join a house when they start school and stay in that house until they leave. Each house includes a mixture of children from every year group and children love to build relationships with children of different ages. Each house has two democratically elected House Captains and every year, they collaborate together to earn house points and compete to be the winning House of the year!
- When can my child start a before or after school club?
Clubs run either before or after school, and include indoor and outdoor sports, cooking, music, craft, drama, languages and much more! Thanks to the support of the Wright's Clock Charity in the village, all children are able to sign up for one free club each term, and can choose to attend further clubs at a reduced cost. Children in Years 1-6 can sign up to clubs each term, and children in EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) can sign up to a selection of clubs from the start of the Spring term each year.
- How can I find out about what my child is learning?
There are numerous opportunities available for you to stay up to date about what your child is learning at school. From weekly school newsletters, workshops, parent/teacher consultation and half-term topic overviews. Each class will also put some photographs on the communication app (Reach More Parents) to help you talk to your children about the things they have been doing. These resources ensure families remain closely connected to their child's educational journey and are well-equipped to support their learning experience.
- What is the Reach More Parents app?
This is our communication app which you will be able to sign up to through an invite email. All messages and information are shared via the app, as well as payments for anything from school dinners to trips. More information can be found at the bottom of this page.
- Does the school have a school council?
Our school council is made up of three committees. Curriculum Committee work to make sure the learning our children engage in, is the very best it can be. Environment Committee ensure our school environment is kept safe and beautiful, as well as monitoring our impact on the wider world. Finally, Wellbeing Committee support the physical and mental health of our school community, as well as impacting the wellbeing of the wider world through charity and community engagement. Each class has two democratically elected representatives for each of these committees.

The Winter Fair is a community event run by the PTFA (Parent, Teacher, Family Association). If runs after school on a Friday (at the end of November/start of December) and there are a range of games, activities, food & drink, face painting and some lovely things to buy. The choir often sing a range of Christmas and winter-themed songs. The event raises money for the school but is also a wonderful time for the school community to come together to celebrate the end of the Autumn term.
- What is Ice-lolly Friday?
At the end of the summer term, the PTFA (Parent, Teacher, Family Association) run a weekly ice-lolly stall after school on a Friday to offer a cold treat to those that wish to purchase one. All proceeds go to the school and there is no obligation to buy.
- What are cauliflower cards?
Cauliflower cards are a company that turn children's artwork into cards and gifts. Each year in school, children create a piece of art that they will bring home with an order form. If parents wish to order cards or gifts based upon their children's artwork, they complete the order form and return it to school, along with the artwork, by the deadlines set. Products will then be sent to parents, via school, later in the Autumn term, in time for Christmas. The PTFA receives a small donation for each product purchased.
